Fasting Mimicking Diet Day 3

Today is the third day on the fasting-mimicking diet, and my weight dropped another pound and a half. That’s a total of 4.3 pounds since the start of the diet.

My fasting glucose number climbed slightly this morning to 99 mg/dL, within the normal range of less than 100. I expected this to drop more with the relatively low carbs, so that’s surprising.

On the other hand, the level has consistently climbed with ketones, as expected. As of this morning, I am officially in nutritional ketosis, which is above 0.5 mg/dL.

From an eating standpoint, the diet has not been as challenging as I expected yet. The snacks and meals are small, but getting some food in my belly makes it easier than traditional fasting.

The hardest thing is watching my wife eat meat and calorie-dense foods. We also went grocery shopping today, which is always interesting when you’re hungry. Still, the sensation of hunger has not been difficult to manage yet.

Today is the biggest energy deficit so far, with only a little over 700 calories.

Energy levels have actually been pretty decent, especially considering I’ve cut out caffeine. I normally take 400-500mg of caffeine daily, so I am surprised that it hasn’t been more difficult.

Don’t get me wrong, there are times when my energy levels are low, or I feel some brain fog, and I could go for a cup of coffee. It’s just not been to the point where I can’t overcome it.

Now that I’m in ketosis, I’m excited to see how much fat I can burn in the second half of the fasting-mimicking diet. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow!
