Fall Bulk Day 32

Day 32 was a huge departure from the normal bulking diet and lifestyle… learn why and how it will affect my progress this week.

Fall Bulk Day 32

My wife and I eloped in Switzerland in July, and yesterday was our formal reception with family and friends. So, needless to say, it was a celebration, and drinks were had.

When it comes to alcohol, I try to keep it to a minimum when I’m seriously bulking or cutting. Although I’m not opposed to having a few drinks as long as it’s in moderation and accounted for in your calories.

Yesterday’s festivities were anything but moderation. There were many beers downed and shots raised to toast the occasion. And it was definitely a step back in terms of health and fitness.

However, I feel like a fitness plan that prevents you from celebrating life’s big moments can hurt your overall well-being. Or maybe that’s my way of justifying a wild night.

Day 32’s diet consisted of mostly clean foods, but the alcoholic beverages definitely contributed to a huge calorie surplus. I didn’t log my calories or macros as I was too busy socializing.

Despite the excess, I typically don’t gain weight after indulging like this. The reason is that the dehydration from the alcohol offsets the energy surplus.

And this morning, I had lost a few pounds of water weight. I didn’t even log that on my bulk weight graph because it was so anomalous.

Still, my years of monitoring my weight have taught me that this dehydration drop is only temporary. And I know my body will respond by holding onto as much water as possible.

Today’s diet was also fairly high in sodium, which will likely compound the water retention, leading to a jump in weight tomorrow. The rebound is also temporary, and my body will tune in its water balance and return to normal in the next couple of days.
