Fall Bulk Day 20
Weight is stable heading into the holiday week. Let’s talk about variability and what it means for long term progress.
My weight this morning was back up to 175 lbs, and it seems to have settled back near the trendline after a week of ups and downs. Not much changed nutritionally, although it was a relatively high-carb day.
Again, I think these recent weight fluctuations have been more related to lifestyle factors. According to my Oura ring, my resting heart rate lowered, and my heart rate variability increased.
This indicates that I probably had a less stressful and more restorative day, which could account for the slight increase in weight today.
Nutrient | Amount |
---|---|
Protein | 242 g (33%) |
Carbs | 336 g (46%) |
Fat | 66 g (21%) |
Calories In | +2,906 |
Calories Out | -2,844 |
Calorie Surplus | +62 (2%) |
On the weight graph, I added the R-squared number next to the trendline equation as a quantifiable measure of my body weight variability. The closer to 1 the R-squared value is, the better it fits the trendline, indicating lower variability.
At the beginning of the bulk, the R-squared value was 0.73, but it’s since dropped to 0.45. You can also see this by looking at how close to the trendline the points were before compared to now.
While higher weight variation doesn’t necessarily affect long-term weight gain or loss, it can be helpful to understand what factors are causing the variation. This can help you dial in your diet, hydration, and supplementation.
