Today is the start of a new month, which is always a good time to set new goals or assess existing ones. With this mental exercise, it’s vital to be specific and have a clear vision of where you want to go.
For example, my new goal is to gain at 8 lbs in the next 8 weeks without getting too fluffy. One pound a week may not sound like much, but if I can gain mostly lean muscle, it will be an impressive body transformation.
My weight has been steady at 172 lbs for the last month as I was in a maintenance or body recomposition phase. So, my final target is 180 lbs.
To get there, the first step is establishing a calorie surplus or eating more than I burn each day. My plan is to begin with a smaller surplus of only 5% and ramp up to a 15-20% surplus if needed.
I typically burn 2,600 to 2,900 calories daily, according to my fitness trackers. So, my starting calorie intake target will be 2,730 to 3,045, depending on my activities that day.
Yesterday was Halloween, and I’ve already managed to jump up to 173.7 lbs after a fairly high-carb day. We’ll see if that weight holds or if it’s just glycogen and water.
