Fall Bulk Day 14
My weigh has been in decline for three straight days. Find out why and what I plan to do about it.
Surprisingly, my scale weight has been in decline for three straight days despite being hydrated and well-nourished. However, day 14 of the bulk was my weekly low-carb rest day, which almost always results in a drop in weight the following morning.
So, in that regard, I’m not overly concerned and have not made any rash decisions about this week’s calorie intake just yet. My plan is to wait and see how my body responds to a high-carb workout day today.
If my weight jumps back up, I will stay the course for a couple of more days. But if it stays lower than expected, I will bump up my calories by a few percent.
Here are my nutrition numbers for November 13th, 2023.
Nutrient | Amount |
---|---|
Protein | 222 g (38%) |
Carbs | 58 g (10%) |
Fat | 134 g (52%) |
Calories In | +2,326 |
Calories Out | -2,393 |
Calorie Deficit | -67 (3%) |
This week, the low-carb and slightly calorie deficit rest day may seem downright dumb, considering my weight was already down. But I’ve been doing this long enough to know not to react to short-term variation, and my weekly average weight is still up.
Moreover, I am aware of the negative effects of chronically high calorie and carb intake. Most notably, insulin resistance, bloating, and fat gain.
These are the reasons I welcome the weekly low-carb day as a reprieve from the nutritional pedal to the metal. Letting off the gas allows my body and digestive system to rest, and I always feel tighter the next day.
This morning, my weight was down another 0.3 lbs. But I’m confident it will rebound tomorrow and in the coming days as I return to my normal macros and calories.
My goal for today is to essentially have a high-carb refeed day to replenish my glycogen and boost my body weight. The surplus will also be a little higher at 10-15%.
Check back on Day 15 to see what happens!
